Dues

Dues are $27 per year or 0.50 cents per week. The annual dues pay for registration fees, Boys Life, awards and decorations. The dues can be taken from a boy's account, if desired. Dues are normally collected each fall and must be paid in full by Dec 31st for a boy to continue with Scouting activities.

Registration

Each new Scout joining Troop 165 is required to pay a one-time registration fee of $10.00.  If weekly dues are kept up to date annual registration will be covered by dues money.

Each adult leader will be charged a $10.00 annual re-charter fee due at registration re-charter each year (usually early November).

Fundraisers

All boys are expected to actively participate in troop fundraisers. We offer fall popcorn sales and July 4 Pancake Breakfast ticket sales. There may also be other opportunities for the boys to raise funds for the operation of the troop. We expect each boy to do his part in supporting the troop.

Why do we have fundraisers?

To help offset the cost for Summer Camp, Camping Trips, Purchase New Supplies, Maintenance of Existing Equipments and much more.

How many fundraisers are there?

Typically, two. We sell July 4 Pancake Breakfast tickets and Popcorn during the fall season.

Scout Accounts (Scout Bucks)

Each boy has a personal account "Scout Bucks" managed through the Troop Treasurer. This account can be built up from either payments from the parents or from troop fundraisers. One example of fundraisers is the Scouts "Popcorn". The Capital Area Council takes a percentage (not the Troop) and the rest goes in the boy's account to pay for dues, summer camp, food for campouts or other Scout items. If a boy quits, all money in the boy's personal account (except payments made by parents) stays with the troop. If there is a brother in the troop, the total could be transferred to the brother's account. If a boy transfers to another troop, the entire account will be transferred to the new troop once he has registered with that troop. The Scoutmaster of the transferring troop must contact the Scoutmaster or the Committee Chairman to confirm his transfer and request the transfer.

Scout bucks earned are good while the Scout remains active in the Troop. They are non-transferable to other Scouts and at expiration unused amounts will be transferred to general Troop funds. Scout bucks can be used for camping gear, uniform, summer camp, dues, high adventure activity, camping fees or any cost directly related to a Scouting activity. It cannot be used for food, beverage or snacks. The Troop Treasurer will reimburse a Scout with a valid receipt and explanation for the expense or apply funds to a Troop event as directed by the Scout.
